Diplomate ACVO

Dr. Keil received her Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Biological Sciences at the University of Minnesota in 1989. She attended the College of Veterinary Medicine also at the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1993. Dr. Keil then stayed on at the Minnesota Veterinary College to participate in a one-year small
animal rotating internship through medicine, surgery, and community practice. From 1994 until June of 1996 she worked part time in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area with a private practice ophthalmologist, at a general practice, and at a multi-specialty emergency clinic.

Dr. Keil started her three-year ophthalmology residency at Kansas State University in June 1996. She trained under Dr. Harriet Davidson and Dr. Allan Brightman. During those three years, she also obtained a Master’s degree in Veterinary Clinical Medicine. She started at Mission MedVet in October 1999 after completing her residency. Dr. Keil has delivered numerous scientific and surgical lectures in the Midwest area through the years. She also enjoys instructing externs and interns rotating
through MMV.

Dr. Keil is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmology. She is one of just 300 board certified ophthalmologists in the United States and Canada. Additionally, she is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Kansas Medical Veterinary Medical Association, and the Society

Dr. Keil specializes in both medical and surgical diseases of the cornea, lens, eyelids, uveal tract, and retina. Some of the more common conditions include keratocon-junctivitis sicca (dry eye), glaucoma, corneal ulcers (infectious (bacterial, viral), immunemediated, trauma), intraocular neoplasia, cataracts (diabetic, genetic) for cataract surgery, and ocular manifestations of systemic disease (neoplasia, systemic hypertension, infectious
diseases (fungal, bacterial, protozoal, viral)). Although the majority of her patients are dogs and cats, Dr. Keil thoroughly enjoys equine cases. She is the only board certified ophthalmologist in the Kansas City area practicing ambulatory equine ophthalmology.
