| A specialist’s training begins after graduation from veterinary school and includes a one-year internship, followed by a two- to three-year residency in the interest area.
After completing a residency, the specialist candidate submits credentials
for approval by the respective specialty board. This usually involves
a review of the residency training program, documentation of acceptance
of at least one scientific paper in a peer-reviewed veterinary publication,
and a critical review of several case reports.
After credential acceptance, the candidate takes
the certifying exam. The exam consists of two to three days of intensive
testing on all aspects of the candidate’s specialty. With
a passing grade the veterinarian earns a board-certified specialist
title.
All Mission MedVet doctors also remain current
on recent clinical advances and regularly present continuing education
programs to area veterinarians.
